The member of the Fatah Central Committee, Mohammad Shtayyeh, called for the issue of the prisoners' striketo be discussed in the Security Council , and demanded that a fact-finding committee be sent in this regard.

Shtayyeh, who laid the foundation stone for the Palestinian medical school in Hebron, said Wednesday that quick steps should be taken to save the life of about 1,800 prisoners, who have been on hunger strike for 38 days, and Israel must be pressured to implement their legitimate demands.

He added that Israel, aside from neglecting the demands of the prisoners and their health, is inciting against them, their families and their allocations and is trying to distort their struggles. He Stressed that the battle of prisoners is the battle of all the Palestinian people as it is the conscience of the national movement.

In another context, Shtayyeh said that the Israeli talk about economic facilities is nothing but a thorn in the eyes.

He explained that what has been talked about is  meager measures that can not have a clear impact on the Palestinian economy and can be stopped by the occupation at any moment.

He added that the Palestinian issue is political and not related to improving living conditions under occupation "in order to build a national economy and bring about sustainable development. The occupation must end." He explained that Israel does not want to enter into any political path because the cessation of settlements will be the title of any political path.

The cabinet approved a "package of economic facilities" on the eve of US President Donald Trump's visit to Israel, including opening Al-Karama crossing 24 hours a day, and improving the barriers between the West Bank and Israel.

Shtayyeh said: the Israelis continue to be stubborn because they believe they are living in the golden era of Israel compared to an era of Arab decline amid a state of imbalance.
