Shtayyeh: Dunya Oncology Center Wins Islamic Development Bank Award

The President of the Economic Council for Development and Reconstruction "PECDAR", and the Governor of Palestine at the Islamic Development Bank, D. Mohammed Shtayyeh, announced the winning of Dunya Specialist Center for Women's Diseases the Islamic Development Bank $100,000 Prize.
On Thursday, Shtayyeh received Dr. Nafouz Al-Maslamani, Medical Director of the Dunya Center, and Mr. Farid Murra and Walid Abu Ras from the Health Committees .
Shtayyeh said he was proud of the fact that a Palestinian institution has won an award contested by hundreds of organizations from 55 Arab and Islamic countries that are members of the bank.
He said that Donia Center provides quality services for women through diagnosis, which helps detect tumors in the early stages, increasing the chances of healing rates.
For her part, Al-Maslamani said that her position contributed to the discovery of 156 cases of cancer in the early stages last year, knowing that in the same year there were 479 cases of breast cancer.
She added that in addition to the diagnosis center, there are clinics and awareness committees spread throughout the country's provinces, and soon, the mobile clinic will be launched, which will tour the West Bank to detect breast cancer.
She said the money allocated for the award will be used to support the free check ups of marginalized groups and the ones that are unable to afford examination fees in the center.
Shtayyeh also mentioned that Mrs. Nafisa Al-Deek received the same award last year and that Ms. Fatima Al-Jada won the same award the year before for the category of individuals. He said that winning international prizes is a great achievement for Palestinian women being an incentive for every Palestinian woman to excel in her homeland and to break occupation and traditions’ shackles imposed on her.
Shtayyeh briefed the guests on the developments of Khalid Al-Hassan Center for Cancer Treatment, which is currently under construction. The center will be established in Surda near Ramallah, and will include all sections related to diagnosis, treatment and bone marrow transplantation.
He added: The role of non-governmental organizations must complement governmental work, as in the case of Dunya center, stressing the need to provide free services to those incapable.
Shtayyeh also invited al-Maslamani to attend the award delivery ceremony that will be held in Jeddah, which is about $100,000 with a memorial tablet and a certificate presented by the Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Islamic Development Bank, Dr. Bandar bin Mohammed Hajjar.
The Award aims to promote women's contributions to economic and social development by recognizing their active role and rewarding their contributions. This prize is awarded annually to draw the attention of the international community to the importance of women role in the development of society and the advancement of global development for the better.
