Japan Announces Aid to Palestine worth $47 million

The Japanese government announced in a press release it issued on Sunday, for new financial assistance to the Palestinian people of about $47 million through international organizations and Japanese NGOs.
This new package includes humanitarian aid through UNRWA, and support for the general budget through the Trust Palestinian plan for the Reform and Development of the World Bank Fund (PRDP), in addition to supporting infrastructure, especially Jericho agro-industrial zone projects through UNDP.
According to the press release, several projects will be implemented in partnership with other international organizations and Japanese NGOs.
The new aid focused on providing humanitarian assistance to refugees and displaced persons, supporting social stability and rooting out extremism through education and creating job opportunities for young people, as well as promoting women's health.
It was mentioned in the statement that the Government of Japan is committed to "strongly supporting Palestinian state-building efforts, and thus contributing to the two-state solution." Japan provided financial and technical support for economic development by the key ministries to help prepare the Palestinian Authority for statehood in line with the national development plans.
Japan has also provided assistance through United Nations agencies, including humanitarian aid, as well as local councils for civil development projects. The Japanese aid is about $1.8 billion in total since 1993, according to the statement.
