Decrease in the Industrial Production Index during July 2016
According to a press release issued by the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS), the overall Quantity of Industrial Production Index (IPI) in Palestine decreased by 4.18% during July 2016 in comparison with June 2016, declining from 102.82 to 98.52.
The Quantity of Industrial Production Index for July 2016 decreased due to the decrease in the following activities:
The activities of Water Supply, Sewerage, Waste Management and Remediation decreased by 14.94% and had a share of 0.78% of the total industry.
The activity of Mining and Quarrying also decreased by 13.98% and had a share of 4.06% of the total industry.
As for the activity of Electricity, Gas, Steam and Air Conditioning Supply, it dropped by 13.73% and had a share of 11.98% of the total industry.
The activity of the Manufacturing Industry fell by 2.62% and had a share of 83.19% of the total industry.
Some of the secondary manufacturing activities, which have a relatively large effect on the Industrial Production Index, also declined during July in comparison with June 2016, including the manufacturing of tobacco products, pharmaceuticals, furniture, chemicals and chemical products, paper and paper products, rubber and plastic products, and food products, as well as printing and reproduction of recorded media activities.
On the other hand, there was an increase in the IPI for some of the manufacturing activities, including the production of metal products (excluding machinery and equipment), textiles, soft drink, and garments.
