Increase in the Producer Price Index during July 2016

According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS), the overall Producer Price Index (PPI) for Palestine with its base month (December 2015=100) reached 102.17 in July 2016, increasing by 1.86% in comparison with June 2016.

The Producer Price Index for locally consumed products reached 102.33 in July 2016, increasing by 2.05% in comparison with June 2016.

Moreover, the Producer Price Index for local exported products reached 101.39 in July 2016, increasing by 0.59% in comparison with June 2016.

The changes in Producer Price Index during July 2016 were traced back to changes in prices of major activities in comparison with the previous month, as follows:

The prices within the activity of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply increased by 4.96%, and formed 11.17% of the goods basket.

The prices within the activity of agriculture, forestry and fishing goods marked an increase by 4.95% and formed 25.20% of the goods basket. This resulted from the increase in the prices of goods within the animal production activity by 12.29%, which in itself occurred due to the increase in the prices of poultry farming by 24.00%.

Prices within the activity of temporary cropping increased by 4.88%, due to the increase in the prices of vegetables, melons, tubers, and root crops by 6.25%. On the other hand, prices within the activity of permanent cropping decreased by 9.88%, due to the decline in the prices of tropical and subtropical fruit by 50.33%, the prices of permanent crops by 24.05%, and the prices within the fishing activity by 7.28%.

Additionally, prices within the mining and quarrying activity increased by 1.29% and formed 2.24% of the goods basket.

Prices within the manufacturing activity witnessed a slight increase by 0.03% and formed 60.61% of the goods basket. This increase resulted from the rise in the prices of chemicals and chemical products by 1.48%, manufactured animal fodder by 1.29%, concrete, gypsum and cement by 1.15%, fruit and vegetable preparation and preservation by 1.04%, oils and animal and plant fats by 0.70%, as well as the prices within the printing activity by 0.45%.

However, there was a decrease in the prices of textiles by 1.06%, dairy products by 0.54%, rubber and plastic products by 0.50%, wheat mill products by 0.39%, and paper and paper products by 0.32%.

Finally, prices within the activities of water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation increased by 0.54% and formed 0.78% of the goods basket.
