Decrease in the Producer Price Index during June 2016

According to a press release issued by the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS), the overall Producer Price Index (PPI) for Palestine with its base month (December 2015=100) reached 100.31 in June 2016, as it decreased by 1.60% in comparison with May 2016.

The Producer Price Index for locally consumed products (December 2015=100) reached 100.27 in June 2016, which indicates a decrease by 1.73% in comparison with May 2016.

The Producer Price Index for locally exported products (December 2015=100) reached 100.80 in June 2016, which indicates a decrease by 0.25% in comparison with May 2016.

The prices within the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply activity decreased by 12.74%, and formed 11.17% of the goods basket. The prices within the mining and quarrying activity also decreased by 2.47%, and formed 2.24% of the goods basket.

The prices of agriculture, forestry and fishing goods decreased by 0.36%, and formed 25.20% of the goods basket. The prices of goods within the temporary cropping activity dropped by 4.71% due to the decrease in the prices of vegetables, melons, and tubers by 5.87%. The prices of products within the animal production activity also decreased by 3.88% due to the decline in the prices of poultry farming by 8.09%. However, the prices of permanent crop goods increased by 21.40% due to the increase in the prices of tropical and subtropical fruit by 89.61% and the prices of citruses by 46.26%. Also, the prices within the fishing activity increased by 1.53%.

Additionally, the prices within the manufacturing activity decreased by 0.06%, and formed 60.61% of the goods basket. There was a decrease in the prices of wood and its products by 3.99%, the prices of plastic and rubber products by 0.92%, the prices of nonmetals by 0.85%, the prices of metal products (excluding machinery and equipment) by 0.77%, the prices of animal fodder by 0.68%, the prices of preparing and preserving fruit and vegetables by 0.57%, and the prices of soft drinks by 0.42%. On the other hand, there was an increase in the prices of furniture by 2.46%, the prices of grain mill products by 2.13%, and the prices of chemicals and chemical products by 0.76%.

Finally, the prices within the water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities increased by 0.12%, and formed 0.78% of the goods basket.
