Increase in the Consumer Price Index during June 2016

According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS), the overall Consumer Price Index (CPI) for Palestine increased by 0.22% in during June 2016 in comparison with May 2016. It increased by 1.75% in Jerusalem and by 0.55% in the West Bank, while it decreased by 0.33% in the Gaza Strip.
This increase in the CPI resulted from the increase in the prices of potatoes and tubers by 8.88%, fresh eggs by 6.55%, liquid fuels for houses by 4.96%, dried vegetables by 3.87%, fresh vegetables by 3.40%, liquid fuels for cars by 3.34%, fresh meat by 1.87%, fresh fruit by 1.26%, education services by 1.14%, and medical care by 0.89%.
On the other hand, there was a decrease in the prices of flour by 1.99%, gas by 1.77%, and fresh poultry by 1.43%.
Additionally, the CPI decreased by 0.14% during June 2016 in comparison with June 2015. It decreased by 1.18% in Jerusalem, and by 1.12% in the West Bank, while it increased by 0.75% in the Gaza Strip.
The CPI increased by 0.19% during the first half of 2016 in comparison with the same period in 2015. It increased by 0.24% in the West Bank, while it decreased by 1.63% in Jerusalem, and slightly decreased by 0.02% in the Gaza Strip.
In Jerusalem, the CPI increased by 1.75% during June 2016 in comparison with May 2016. This resulted from the increase in the prices of fresh vegetables by 40.86%, dried vegetables by 35.42%, tubers by 31.27%, rice by 8.98%, fresh fruit by 8.52%, fresh eggs by 8.33%, fresh poultry by 6.78%, fresh fish by 4.66%, fresh meat by 4.48%, liquid fuels for houses by 3.05%, and liquid fuels for cars by 2.51%. And there was a drop in the prices of oils and fats by 3.17%
In the West Bank, the CPI also increased by 0.55% during June 2016 in comparison with May 2016. This increase was due to the rise in the prices of fresh vegetables by 7.72%, fresh eggs by 6.38%, tubers by 5.51%, liquid fuels for houses by 5.18%, liquid fuels for cars by 3.62%, fresh meat by 1.93%, education services by 1.72%, fresh poultry by 1.43%, medical care by 0.72%, and fresh fruit by 0.44%. However, there was a decrease in the prices of dried vegetables by 2.51%, gas by 1.66%, and flour by 0.54%.
In the Gaza Strip, the CPI decreased by 0.33% during June 2016 in comparison with May 2016, due to the decrease in the prices of fresh poultry by 7.40%, imported cigarettes by 4.34%, fresh vegetables by 4.08%, flour by 2.61%, and gas by 2.23%. The decrease in the CPI occurred despite the increase in the prices of tubers by 13.20%, dried vegetables by 9.21%, fresh eggs by 6.67%, liquid fuels for houses by 5.18%, liquid fuels for cars by 3.62%, fresh fruit by 3.40%, oils and fats by 2.05%, medical care by 1.2%, fresh fish by 1.19%, and fresh meat by 1.14%.
