Decline in Hotel Activity: 80,000 Hotel Guests in First Quarter, 2016
According to a press release issued by the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS), 80,228 guests stayed at hotels in the West Bank during the first quarter of 2016, 33% of whom were from European Union countries and 13% of whom were Palestinians.
The number of hotel guests was 20% lower than in the first quarter of 2015 and 32% lower in comparison with the previous quarter.
During the first quarter of 2016, the number of guest nights in the West Bank hotels reached 250,131; 35% of guests were from European Union countries, 15% were Palestinians, and 11% were from the United States and Canada. Also, there were 2,856 hotel workers (2,197 males and 659 females) in the first quarter of 2016.
Moreover, the hotel room occupancy rate in the West Bank was 16.5% in the first quarter of 2016, and room occupancy was 17% lower than first quarter of 2015 and 25% lower in comparison with the previous quarter.
Additionally, 113 hotels operating in the West Bank responded to the PCBS’ survey in March 2016.These hotels had 6,766 rooms available with 14,903 beds.
