Decrease in the Industrial Production in Palestine during January 2016
According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS), the overall Quantity of Industrial Production Index (IPI) in Palestine reached 96.81 during January 2016 with a decrease of 3.19% compared to the previous month.
Quantity of Industrial Production Index for January 2016 decreased due to the decrease in the activity of Manufacturing Industry by 3.22%, which had a share of 83.19% of the total industry.
Electricity, Gas, Steam and Air Conditioning Supply decreased by 1.31%, which had a share of 11.98% of the total industry.
The activity of Mining and Quarrying decreased by 9.50%, which had a share of 4.06% of the total industry.
While the activity of Water Supply, Sewerage, Waste Management and Remediation Activities increased by 4.43%, which had a share of 0.78% of the total industry.
Moreover, secondary industrial activities, which substantially influence the overall IPI, witnessed a decrease during January 2016 in comparison with December 2015. Such activities include the manufacturing of nonmetal products, metal products (excluding machinery and equipment), tobacco products, furniture, clothes, and pharmaceutical products.
On the other hand, the IPI increased for the production of food products, soft drinks, leather products, chemical products, and paper products.
