An Increase in the WPI during 2015 in Comparison with 2014
Increase in the Wholesale Price Index during 2015
The overall Wholesale Price Index (WPI) in Palestine with its base year (2007=100) reached 123.63 in 2015, which indicates an increase by 1.21% compared with 2014.
Prices of Wholesale Price Index for 2015 increased due to the increase in the prices of Agriculture goods by 5.73%, while the prices of Fishing decreased by 2.32%, Manufacturing group by 0.67%, and Mining and quarrying by 0.40%.
The prices of local products increased by 4.26%, while the prices of imported products decreased by 2.55%.
Decrease in the Wholesale Price Index during the Fourth Quarter of 2015
The overall Wholesale Price Index (WPI) in Palestine with its base year (2007=100) reached 124.98 in the Fourth quarter 2015, which indicates a decrease by 0.37% compared with the Third quarter 2015.
Wholesale Price Index for local products (2007=100) reached 126.79 in the Fourth quarter 2015, which indicates a sharp decrease by 1.20% compared with the Third quarter 2015.
Wholesale Price Index for imported products (2007=100) reached 121.10 in the Fourth quarter 2015, which indicates a decrease by 0.36% compared with the Third quarter 2015.
The Wholesale Price Index and Major Activities
The Wholesale Price Index decreased during the fourth quarter of 2015 due to the decrease in the prices of agricultural goods by 0.75%, which formed 29.00% of the wholesale goods basket, which in itself resulted from the decrease in livestock prices by 7.57%; the prices of live animals dropped by 8.26% and the prices of animal products declined by 6.08%.
The prices of agricultural products increased by 3.31%, as the prices of fresh and dried vegetables increased by 6.29%, and the prices of grains and legumes increased by 5.86%, despite the decline in the prices of fresh fruit by 6.39%.
Fishing products recorded an increase by 0.37% in their prices and they only formed 0.10% of the wholesale goods basket.
The prices of products in the manufacturing industry decreased by 0.20% and they formed 70.00% of the wholesale goods basket. Animal fodder prices decreased by 7.07%, the prices of ceramic construction products decreased by 5.43%, the prices of soft drinks decreased by 5.18%, the prices of textile and Tricot fabric declined by 3.13%, the prices of ready-made garments decreased by 2.23%, and the prices of meat and meat products decreased by 2.01%.
On the other hand, the prices of dairy products increased by 2.23%, the prices of plastic and rubber products increased by 2.29%, the prices of wood manufacturing and products increased by 1.21%, and the prices of leather products increased by 1.04%.
Moreover, the prices of mining and quarrying products increased by 0.10% and they formed 0.90% of the wholesale goods basket.
