Raef Al-Eker, Head of the Administrative Affairs Department at NEDCO, said that the Company borrowed 50 million shekels from banks in order to solve the electricity crisis in Jenin.

This was revealed in a meeting with Sameeh Tbeileh, the Minister of Transportation, and the members of the Unions and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Jenin.

El-Eker told the Palestine Economy Portal that there is going to be a meeting with the Israeli side next week to agree on a mechanism to end the crisis. He said, “We will pay 20 million shekels to the Israeli side, and if we reach an agreement on all issues, we will use the remaining 30 million shekels of the borrowed money.”

Mohammad Kameel, the General Manager of the Chamber of Commerce, said that they have demanded that the Minister of Local Government and the Minister of Transportation hurry in finding a solution to the electricity crisis, and mentioned that the Israeli side is responsible for a big part of it.

Moreover, Israel decreased the amount of electricity provided to Jenin from 480 to 400 amperes, while the Governorate of Jenin’s need of electricity reaches 600 amperes. Until now, Israel refuses to allow the Jalma Electric Station to operate, which would help in solving the electricity crisis in Jenin and several other areas in the north.
