Israeli expert: The complete annexation of the West Bank could cost the Israeli government 67 billion shekels a year
Palestine Economy Portal.
David Brodet, the former director general of the Israeli Ministry of Finance, warned that a complete annexation of the West Bank could cost the Israeli government 67 billion shekels a year.
"Brodet" told the Israeli army radio that the annexation of 2.5 million Palestinians would incur expenses amounting to 67 billion shekels annually.
He added: "By hiring a small group of Palestinians that is likely to be included in the annexation, the cost of annexation can be expected, which will include the need to increase the budget of the National Insurance Institute, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Welfare."
He continued: "In the Jordan Valley alone, if you do not take into account Jericho that will remain under the Palestinian government, there will be about 30,000 people like the Palestinians who live in East Jerusalem, who will obtain Israeli residency, then the maintenance of their cost of living can be borne by more than Hundreds of millions of shekels a year, and this is a relatively small group”
According to Brodet, the partial annexation will lead Israel to a dangerous place, and warned that after annexing a small part of the lands, diplomatic and political pressure may end in pushing Israel to grant citizenship to all Palestinians in the West Bank, and the complete annexation of the West Bank that Israel occupied during the Six-Day War 1967.
He added: "The dynamics of annexation create the illusion that we can do partial annexation"
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu intends to annex up to 30% of the West Bank at the beginning of next July, according to the "Deal of the Century" issued by US President "Donald Trump".
