The Chairman of the Palestinian Olive Oil Council, Fayyad Fayyad, said that the initial estimate of olive oil production this year reached 17 thousand tons, whereas it amounted to 24 thousand tons last year.
He told the Palestine Economy Portal that he expects the amount of olive oil production to exceed over 17 thousand tons, as the Ministry of Agriculture is still working on collecting all the production amounts from the governorates, in order to officially announce the number.
The production amounts of olive oil and pressed olive residues are collected from olive oil mills located all over the governorates.
There are 10 million olive trees planted in Palestine in around 900 thousand dunums of land. The olive harvest forms 13% of the annual agricultural production in Palestine.
