Ahmed Abu Houli, member of the PLO Executive Committee, said that an emergency meeting will be held next Tuesday at the headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo to discuss the renewal of the mandate of UNRWA and its financial crisis.
He said in a press release issued on Sunday that he is scheduled to participate in the emergency meeting of the conference of supervisors on the affairs of Palestinians in Arab countries hosting refugees, including: Arab countries hosting refugees, the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, the Organization of the Islamic Conference and the Arab Organization for Science and Culture ALECSO and the Islamic Organization for Science and Culture (ASESCO) to discuss the renewal of the mandate of UNRWA and its financial crisis and other issues.
He added that the emergency meeting will be held at the request of the State of Palestine to discuss supporting the renewal of the mandate of UNRWA's work for the next three years, which is part of the PLO's plan to support the renewal of its mandate as the voting process approaches in light of the US-Israeli effort to cancel or change the mandate.
He continued: "The conference will stand before the decision to freeze some donor countries financial support for" UNRWA "in light of leaks to secret documents on the investigation of the Office of Internal Oversight Services of the United Nations, accusing some of its staff for involvement in corruption cases, pointing out that the conference will discuss a mechanism to address this file ".
Abu Houli said: "UNRWA" is exposed to a serious conspiracy aimed at liquidating its presence in light of the US-Israeli hostile action against it, to influence the member states of the United Nations to urge them not to vote in favor of the decision to renew its mandate, and to urge donor countries to suspend or stop its aid, in the service of its scheme In dismantling UNRWA, ending its role and canceling its mandate by inciting it, questioning its role, its legitimacy and violating its image.
He stressed that the emergency meeting will issue recommendations and an important memorandum to support the "UNRWA" and support the renewal of its mandate given to the resolution "302", and to emphasize its services and expose the US and Israeli positions hostile to "UNRWA" will be submitted to the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States Ahmed Aboul Gheit and asked him to circulate it to foreign ministers In their meeting to be held at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States on September 10, the Arab League missions abroad and Arab ambassadors' councils should deal with them and act urgently in support of UNRWA and in renewing its mandate.
He stressed the need for coordination at the level of Arab host countries to block the US administration and the Israeli occupation government from passing the liquidation scheme "UNRWA". Stressing the importance of supporting its continuation to carry out its work in accordance with its establishment resolution No. 302 of 1949, and rejecting any prejudice or manipulation to define the status of a Palestinian refugee.
