A one-year scholarship program is open to Palestinians residing in the West Bank, Gaza Strip and Jerusalem for a master's degree at a British university and in any discipline of their choice.
On August 5, the British Consulate General in Jerusalem opened the door for promising young Palestinians with leadership skills to apply for the prestigious Chevening Scholarship, where students will be able to apply until November 5.
Notable former graduates in the Occupied Palestinian Territories include Palestinian Ambassador to the United Kingdom Hossam Zamlat, prominent Palestinian director Amer Shomali, well-known comedian actress Manal Awad, and more than 350 other Palestinian graduates. Internationally, the graduates lists include the heads of government of Poland, Iceland and Bulgaria, heads of state such as Colombia and Kiribati, as well as renowned novelists, film directors, judges and bankers.
This year, a team from the British Consulate General will tour various Palestinian cities to help interested students learn more about the application process and course system and to answer questions from interested students. Venues and times for these events will be announced later on the pages of the UK Consulate General on UK in Jerusalem.
The scholarship is open to all Palestinians seeking a Master’s degree in Britain, where applicants must have a university degree, at least two years of work experience, and a good English language level. The Chevening Scholarship is open to all ages and there is no age limit.
The Chevening Scholarship also covers all costs related to university fees, travel and living in Britain. The Chevening Scholarship Program also provides opportunities to learn about British culture and build a network of relationships with future leaders from around the world.
The British Consul General in Jerusalem, Philip Hall, said:
"The Chevening Scholarship aims to invest in future leaders and provide opportunities for Palestinian youth. We are proud to have been able to increase the number of scholarships for Palestinian students over the past three years, and we seek to maintain this number for the coming years.
Chevening is more than an educational grant, providing an opportunity to learn about British culture, as well as meeting many influential British and other people around the world, increasing the chances of transferring experiences and cultures to create a better future”
