The Minister of Agriculture Minister Riyad Attari and UNDP Representative Roberto Valent signed a memorandum of understanding on Tuesday to implement a number of agricultural projects in the Palestinian territories and to mobilize funding and respond to the government's plan to implement economic projects to help support Palestinian farmers' steadfastness. In order to enhance the profitability of farmers and to open agricultural markets and promote competition for the Palestinian agricultural product through the implementation and establishment of special development projects in the marginalized areas classified as "C" and in Jerusalem and Gaza.
The memorandum, signed at the Ministry of Agriculture in Ramallah, is a continuation of the previous relationship between the Ministry and the United Nations Development Program, which includes the support and development of livestock and agricultural resources, the provision, management and rationalization of agricultural water, land reclamation and improvement of agricultural services provided by the Ministry.
Agriculture Minister Riad Attari thanked the United Nations for its political stance and its permanent support for Palestine at all levels. He said that the government needs this support, especially in the difficult circumstances of the Palestinian issue.
He reiterated that the Palestinian government has a clear decision to support all the decisions of the president rejecting the political dictates, the need for economic disengagement from the occupation after 25 years of the Oslo agreement, and the importance of developing and supporting the agriculture sector because agriculture is land and man.
The Minister of Agriculture expressed his hope to achieve achievements in the agricultural sector, especially in areas "C", adding that the ministry's plan on agricultural clusters adopted by the government last week, will work to strengthen infrastructure and develop natural resources and provide effective services to farmers, And will provide many permanent employment opportunities have been agreed with the community and civil organizations, and there is dialogue with the private sector to contribute to this plan, which will be launched soon in Qalqilya and will include northern Palestine and some areas of Gaza.
Atari stressed that the government will use all its resources for the success of its development plan, and will call on international partners to contribute to this plan, which will be implemented for the first time in this developmental framework.
In his turn, the representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Roberto Valent, praised the proposal made by the Minister of Agriculture, stressing the importance of cooperation between UNDP and the Ministry of Agriculture and Labor within the strategy of agricultural clusters and assisting in the implementation of the Ministry's strategy in this regard.
The representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) also thanked Minister of Agriculture Riyad Attari for his confidence in the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and for the strategic relationship to serve Palestinian farmers and to strengthen their steadfastness, especially those affected and threatened by Israeli attacks.
