The Demolition of Palestinian homes in Sur Baher, East Jerusalem
Palestine Economy Portal
Sur Baher is a neighborhood that connected Jerusalem and the West Bank, Israel has been trying to demolish it. On Monday, Israeli soldiers entered Sur Baher and demolished hundreds of apartments and forced residents out of their homes. Israel claimed that the buildings in Sur Baher were violating a “construction ban.” The Israeli Supreme Court ruled in June that Sur Baher did violate the construction ban, even though the demolitions took place in order to help Israel in its land expansion.
The EU criticized the demolition and it stated that the demolition “undermines the viability of the two-state solution and the prospect for a lasting peace.”
The demolition of Sur Baher is as horrific as the 1967 Palestinian demolitions that were performed by Israel.
The issue of security that is being used to validate the demolitions is only a cover up for Israel so it can expand its settlements and build new bypass roads.
