Launch of the Arab Summit for Economic Development in Beirut

The Lebanese capital of Beirut launched the fourth Arab Economic and Social Development Summit, on Sunday, in cooperation with the Palestinian PM Dr. Rami Hamdallah on behalf of the Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas.
The President of the Lebanese Republic, General Michel Aoun, announced the opening of the Summit. The Session began with the Minister of Finance of KSA (Presidency of the 3rd Session of the Summit) Mohammad Aljadaan, followed by the Michel Aouns’ speech.
The Summits’ main website assured that the agenda of the Summit includes 24 clauses. The economic, social, and development work report, done by the SG of the Arab League initiated the Summit; follow up the implementation of decisions in the 2013 Riyad Summit report; an extension to the periodic convening of the Arab Development Summit based on the Economic and Social councils’ decision.
The agenda includes a clause regarding Arab Food Security (AFS), which contains multiple subjects; the Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir’s initiative on Arab Food Security, AFS’s emergency program, integration and trade in agricultural and plant crops; and livestock products in the Arab region.
The Summit discusses the Greater Arab Free Trade Area’s developments, the continuation of requirements for the establishment of the Arab Customs Union, the Arab Charter for the Development of SME Sector, the Arab Strategy for Sustainable Energy 2030, the Arab Common Market for Electricity, the Integration Initiative between Tourism and the Arab Cultural and Cultural Heritage, and the Management of Solid Waste in the Arab World.
The agenda also includes the common Arab vision regarding Digital Economy, and the Arab Strategic Framework for the Eradication of Multidimensional Poverty 2020-2030 and the Platform for Action for the Family in the Arab Region within the framework of the implementation of the goals of sustainable development 2030.
The Palestinian delegation participating in the summit includes: Foreign Minister Riyad Al Malki, Minister of Economy Abeer Odeh and Ambassador of the State of Palestine in Cairo, Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States Diab Al-Louh.
