Jordan is contemplating giving the citizenship to investors

Ramallah – Palestine Economy Portal

A specialized governmental committee in Jordan will start considering 130 applications of investors and businessmen for Jordanian Citizenship.

The Minister of State for Jordanian Investment Muhannad Shehadeh stated that the governmental committee will begin studying these applications to make sure they meet the standards and specific requirements.

The Minister pointed out that the applications given to the committee came from various Arab nationalities including Iraqi and Syrian as well as people carrying the Palestinian documents.

Shehadeh said that only 9 applications met the standards and requirements to obtain the Jordanian citizenship. This will be delivered to the Council of Ministers next month. This will raise the number to 15 investors who have acquired the citizenship since the decision was issued.

Shehadeh confirmed that the government is keen on enforcing the decisions it is taking regarding stimulating investments with ease, away from bureaucracy and complications. He insures that the investment committee is working according to the plans and programs that aim at reinforcing and attracting investments and settling them in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

The Jordanian government decided last February (2018) to give the citizenship to new investors for certain conditions that have been modified mid November 2018. This decision includes investors who fit the criteria.

The citizenship is offered to investors provided that the value of the fixed assets of the project or its share of the project based on the certified annual budgets in the past three years doesn’t fall under 2 million USD for every partner, in addition to providing 20 job opportunities for Jordanians during the past three years, according to the Social Security Statements.

Experts and business men assured that the decisions of giving the citizenship will play a part in increasing investment attractions, localizing and expanding the opportunities in the Kingdom.

The direct foreign investment entering Jordan grew by 7.2% equivalent to 79.4 million Jordan Dinars compared to the year before, based on the numbers issues by the Jordanian Central Bank.
